Madekwe is from a multi-cultural family. Born within South London. She is English, and her father is Nigerian. She was born in the South London Council Estate, and then was a student at The Brit School aged 14. It was the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she earned the BA in acting. She was on stage in many productions while attending school such as King Henry V, as Princess Katherine, and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw. Madekwe began her career as an actress with the film Storm Damage. She's appeared as guest in Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe landed her first motion-picture role in the Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. The film's success resulted in her being cast as Elisha in a single-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in the six-episode series Trexx and Flipside as Ollie.
