Madekwe is from a multi-cultural family. Born within South London. She is English, and her father is Nigerian. She was born in the South London Council Estate, and then was a student at The Brit School aged 14. It was the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she earned the BA in acting. She was on stage in many productions while attending school such as King Henry V, as Princess Katherine, and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her career as an actress with the film Storm Damage. She's appeared as guest in Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe landed her first motion-picture role in the Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. The film's success resulted in her being cast as Elisha in a single-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in the six-episode series Trexx and Flipside as Ollie. Also, the ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl saw her in the year 2008 as Bambi. Madekwe also appeared on the comedic How to Lose Friends and Alienate people (2008). Some of her theatre credits include Little Sweet Thing (by Roy Williams) as well as Flight Path (by David Watson).
Madekwe made her debut in the US with The Beautiful Life. The drama show was telecast at The CW for only two episodes, before it was cancelled. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama series, was cast as Ashley Davenport. After being a regular for the first two seasons it was announced in May 2013 that Madekwe would leave the show after her appearance on the premiere episode from the 3rd season. On the show Salem in 2014, she portrayed Tituba from 2014 until 2016. Madekwe, along with her boyfriend of many years, Iddo Goldenberg, were wedding in June of 2012. They both appeared on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. They have also appeared as a couple in Salem.

Ashley Leggat, an actress that was nominated two times for a Gemini Award, is a member of a large Hamilton family. Her family included the parents Roy and Patty along with four brothers who were older than them: Brett, Todd and Bram twins, Rob, and Brett. Ashley's brothers were athletic and were avid baseball players during the summer months and hockey during winters. Ashley never actually walked -she danced, so when she was just two years old, she took up Baby Ballet -and she fell in love. Ashley became passionate about dance following this. Until she graduated from High School, Ashley danced competitively in the highest divisions of ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, acrobatics, musical theatre, lyrical and hip-hop. The top soloist at big competitions, such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance which were all given to Ashley.
